Now or Never

motivational-monday-header

It’s now or never.

Whatever that thing is that you keep waiting to do because you’re not sure you’ll succeed, or you’re afraid of what will happen if you fail – just do it. Apply for that study abroad. Start a new book in a foreign language even if you can barely read it. You want to get better at Korean? Nothing will change if you don’t take the first step. Do it! You got this!

Begin Anywhere

Begin anywhere.

– John Cage

I’ve been gone for about a month in order to focus on the beginning of my last year in undergrad, but I’m back! New posts to come, beginning with this Friday.

Sometimes, it’s hard to know what to do when there’s a huge pile of things that need doing. Assignments, readings, papers, blog posts. Language study. Post-graduation life prep. Where do you start? Just start. Begin anywhere, and then you’ll figure out what to do next.

Translation by yours truly. All mistakes are mine.

Two Languages, Two Selves

“To have another language is to possess a second soul.”

– Charlemagne

Just be careful you don’t turn into Voldemort by splitting your soul into seven pieces….oh, was that too dark? Sorry, that was probably too dark. Happy language learning!

And channel your inner prideful Harry when it comes to developing that second-soul language of yours.

“The road goes ever on…”

the road goes on quote focused

“The road goes ever on and on…”

– J.R.R. Tolkien

Language study, study abroad, and in general the adventures of life are never finished. If your language studying motivation is petering out, or you are feeling blue after an amazing summer, or if you haven’t managed the study abroad yet that you’re dreaming of, just remember that the journey isn’t over! It’s a scary business, stepping out your door…but so, so worth it.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
― Terry PratchettA Hat Full of Sky

Motivational Monday

“People often complain of lack of time when lack of decision is the main problem.”

Quote

It’s okay.

Even if everything falls apart, it’s okay.

You will always be fine.

You are bigger than your scars.

Do Anything (Sylvia Plath)

“Go out and do something. It isn’t your room that’s a prison, it’s yourself.”

-Sylvia Plath

Sylvia Plath ❤ Also I purposefully titled this “Do Anything” because I like the way that sounds. Start anywhere. Do anything.

I translated this quote myself, so I’m sorry for any mistakes.

Even if you make mistakes…

Making mistakes is something everyone does. Learning from them is not.
